Accessibility at the Esk Vale Guest House

Esk Vale Guest House welcomes people with disabilities and has developed the Access Statement to address some of the more common issues that disabled people face.
This access statement is intended to provide additional information for all guests who wish to stay in the Guest House. Recognition has been given to include guests with an impairment, which could include: Mobility, Sight, Hearing, Learning Disabilities or any other hidden impairment.

Esk Vale Guest House aims to ensure that all employees, guests and others who use, or assist in, the provision of our services – whether they have a mobility difficulty, a visual impairment, are deaf or hard of hearing, are deaf blind, have a speech impairment or difficulty, have a learning difficulty or mental health disability, use a cane, walking frame or crutches, or have any other disability – are treated equally and according to their needs.

We request that anyone wishing to make an enquiry or booking inform us of any special needs or disabilities that they may have in order for us to meet any personal requirements. As Proprietors, we aim to assist disabled guests with empathy.

Esk Vale Guest House is located 100m from Southsea Sea Front, directly north of South Parade Pier which is on Southsea Seafront.

The Guest House is within easy reach of the M27 via the M275. The M3 and A34 are approximately 15 miles to the North East. Portsmouth Harbour train station is 2 miles to the West and Buses run from the adjacent Bus Station to the smaller Bus Station at South Parade, which is situated some 200m from Esk Vale Guest House.

Esk Vale Guest House has a Car Park on a level surface and whilst none of our 4 parking spaces are designated “Disabled”, we will ensure that any Disabled Badge holder occupies the nearest space to our front door (3m from the entrance) if notified that a registered disabled person is visiting. We will also endeavour to reserve a room for disabled guests on the ground floor to minimize their need for stair usage.

Ground floor areas of the Guest House are not accessible to wheelchair users unassisted as the House has a total of 8 Steps leading up to the front entrance door. Lack of space precludes installation of a ramp and specific disabled toilet facilities.

Entrance To Esk Vale Guest House

The Front Entrance is via a pair of double glazed doors which are 2 steps up from the Car Park. A further 6 steps lead up to the front door proper. The bell push is on the right of the front door, approximately 5 feet from the floor.

Entrance to the Foyer is up a further single step. The Breakfast Room stairway entrance door is 3m to the right, just to the left of the stairway leading to the first & second floors. Rooms for guests on the ground floor are all En-suite with Showers.

A bell push for emergency out of hours service is to the left of the Basment entrance in the foyer.

The Breakfast Room is reached from the foyer, the proprietors will seat you at a table.

Emergencies

Esk Vale is equipped with an automatic fire detection and alarm system, emergency lighting and smoke detectors. In the event of a fire, all guests are required to muster outside on the opposite side of the road. Disabled guests will be escorted to the muster point.

Smoking

Guests are requested to note that Esk Vale is a non smoking guest house. Guests are respectfully informed that the smoke detection system sets off the fire alarm and indicates which room any smoking has taken place in.
